After settling in and getting a light lunch we headed to The Apparent Project (The Project).
This is a shop where
artists create their works right on sight.
The Project was started by an American who came to Haiti to adopt a
child and discovered that the parents truly didn’t want to give up their child,
but needed to because they simply couldn’t afford the child. The Project helps give jobs to parents so
that they can afford to support their families.
They are trained in each of the skills that are needed to make the items
for sale so that their skills are broad and when needed, the Project can mass
produce any item by utilizing all of the workers. In addition to the great job opportunity, the
Project also provides daycare as well as Pre-K for free for the worker’s
children.
In the shop
you can find anything from jewelry to stoneware mugs. Beads made from cardboard that is wrapped
around a stick multiple times is very popular and the colors in the beads
depends on the colors on the cardboard. Clay for the stoneware is mixed onsite and
there and during the tour you can watch potters make the mugs.
After our
tour our team bought several items for ourselves and for gifts. Upstairs we gathered in a restaurant area and
most ordered a fresh fruit smoothie. Strawberry-Mango
was a favorite as we relaxed a bit from the long day.
We returned
back to the guesthouse in time for dinner of chicken legs with rice and
beans. For dinner we clean up ourselves
and with several helping hands dishes were soon done. Jeff K lead us in devotions tonight. We discussed our schedule for tomorrow and
most of us are headed to bed early.
Bon Nuit,
Friends.
